Tell Me Why Gas Prices Are So High
We all continue to see higher prices when
we go to the gas pumps, and it is really upsetting. Many
individuals wonder why gas prices are so
high? What is
the story behind it that has resulted in consumers paying
more for it than ever before? It mainly has to do with the
cost of oil which is the prime ingredient for making gas.
Most of the oil that is produced is purchased from other
countries and we are at their mercy about the price of
it.
The prices for oil that is produced
continue to go up due to the high demand for it. When you
think of the number of personal vehicles on the road as well
as public transportation, approximately 150 billion gallons
of gas are consumed annually and that number continues to go
up with each passing year. Supply and demand has always been
a factor that drives pricing in our society. Those who
produce oil know they can sell it for much more than before
and consumers will still buy it.
Many individuals believe that the war in
Iraq has played a huge role in gas prices being so high. On
one end you have it being produced, but then the cost of
getting it transported to where it needs to be can be held
up. It can also be very expensive. There is also the issue
that many of the oil refineries in the United States have
been involved in natural disasters over the past five years.
It takes a very long time for a full recovery from such
events to occur.
When you think about why gas prices are so
high, it is easy to feel like you are being taken advantage
of. Keep in mind though that most gas stations only make a
few cents per gallon when you buy it from them. They too are
paying high prices for gas so they can’t sell it to you much
lower than they already are or they will be losing
money.
As gas prices continue to soar, maybe it
is a good time to look into alternate
types of fuel? Many individuals
have chosen to go with compact cars or even motorcycles
for commuting. Hybrids are also
becoming more popular as it cuts down on the amount of
gas that has to be consumed to allow you to go about your
daily routine.
